Dorm Living And Owning Real Estate

LSU real estate is a great area to invest in when you have the opportunity to do so. And the best part is that you don’t have to be a full-time investor to invest in LSU real estate.

Actually, the most common way of investing in LSU real estate that I see is by parents who have children who attend LSU.  With dorms offering minimal amenities, the extra expenses of the mandatory meal plan, and no recapture of dollars spent over the college career, purchasing real estate in the LSU area is a very appealing alternative.

Parents of children who attend LSU often choose to purchase real estate close to LSU rather than renting a dorm or renting an apartment near LSU. I find most parents who do so tend to have more than one child who will be attending LSU, and it doesn't take much calculating to calculate that over a four year child's college career (or more according to CollegeBoard.com's Scholarship Article). Compound that with each student attending LSU and it won't take long for the housing expense to become a monumental amount.

My article on renting dorms vs. buying LSU real estate shows you why it is a good opportunity to invest in appreciating LSU real estate.

If you have children who will be attending LSU in the future, now may be the time to start preparing housing for your children. For parents who live out of state, condos make the better investment because they require less upkeep, and are not as subject to break-ins when vacant. Parents in Baton Rouge who are considering between condos and detached homes should see what their needs are and then go from there.

For instance, for parents who have two or three boys attending LSU, I generally recommend houses because houses are generally a more stable investment. Males tend to be more handy and capable of handling any yard work or household repairs, if those items aren't contracted out to a company to do.

For parents who have a single daughter attending LSU, I generally recommend purchasing in one of the gated community complexes near LSU. This makes it safer for the daughter and she generally doesn't have to tend to keeping up a lawn.
